Tahirih Anthony
Senior Policy Manager
Tahirih Anthony serves as the Senior Policy Manager for Common Justice offering seven years of legislative experience related to Criminal Justice issues. In Tahirih’s previous work as a Legislative Director for the New York State Senate, she drafted key legislation and negotiated bill language with critical stakeholders and grassroots organizations. She leverages her experience from both the New York State Assembly’s Program & Counsel as well as the Center for Employment Opportunities, to craft effective and groundbreaking policy promoting true rehabilitation and alternatives to incarceration. Tahirih assisted with the passage of the Humane Alternatives to Long Term (HALT) Solitary Confinement Act, expanding access for the Correctional Association of New York, ending double-bunking in Correctional Facilities, and keeping incarcerated individuals closer to their children (Close to Home). Tahirih believes in Common’s Justice’s vision that social policy must be deeply rooted in the engagement of people whose lives are at stake from oppressive systems.
Tahirih is a first-generation Black-Guyanese American originally from Staten Island. She joins us from the University at Albany where she has earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice, as well her Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security.
