Assistant Director of Operations

The Assistant Director of Operations will support Common Justice as part of a team responsible for operations, finance, and administration. They will report directly to the Director of Operations and Finance and supervise the Operations Manager. This position is eligible for hybrid-remote work. On-site attendance for this job will be primarily in Brooklyn, though some travel to our Bronx office will be expected.

Common Justice develops and advances solutions to violence that transform the lives of those harmed and foster racial equity without relying on incarceration. Locally, we operate the first alternative to incarceration and victim service program in the United States to focus on violent felonies in the adult courts. Nationally, we leverage the lessons from our direct service to transform the justice system through partnerships, advocacy, and elevating the experience and power of those most impacted. Rigorous and hopeful, we build practical strategies to hold people accountable for harm, break cycles of violence, and secure safety, healing and justice for survivors and their communities.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Operations will support Common Justice as part of a team responsible for operations, finance, and administration. They will report directly to the Director of Operations and Finance and supervise the Operations Manager. This position is eligible for hybrid-remote work. On-site attendance for this job will be primarily in Brooklyn, though some travel to our Bronx office will be expected.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Serve as a partner to the Director of Operations and Finance on the organization's administrative and operational processes, developing and improving systems as the organization grows.

· Provide technical leadership in knowledge management – develop and maintain a knowledge database and coordinate the flow of information across the organization

· Support corporate housekeeping and compliance - managing organizational insurance, state and federal filings, and Board documents

· Oversee IT systems maintenance and improvements, including cybersecurity

· Identify opportunities for integrating different operational, administrative, and/or technological tools and systems to improve existing processes for program management

· Provide a strong and supportive day-to-day facilities operations leadership presence; including overseeing the development and implementation of systems for safety and security, and emergency preparedness

· Manage government contracts in partnership with an accounting firm and the Director of Operations and Finance

· Cross-train in core finance functions to strengthen the team, create redundancies, and preserve institutional knowledge

· Handle financial tasks including the review and approval of accounts payable, payroll, & revenue and expense coding

· Supervise the Operations Manager to maintain overall office facilities and administrative functions to ensure smooth and consistent operations

· Attend to other arising matters as needed to ensure the overall efficient operations and health of the organization.

· An approach to operations that is grounded in equity and inclusion

· Experience working in the non-profit sector a plus

· Experience supervising staff and working as part of a team

· Demonstrated experience in operations, administration, facilities management, and IT

Salary is commensurate with experience within Common Justice’s pay range of $92,000 - $98,000 for an Assistant Director level position.
